About Domain Collections
K uses the Collection feature to manage Data Domains and sub-domains.
As a default setting, K has pre-created a Collection Type called Domain. Each sub-domain, is a type of Instance.
Only Data Governance Managers and K Admin users have the ability to create new sub-domain instances.
After a new sub-domain instance has been created, anyone can tag a data asset to the sub-domain
Domains
A Data Domain is a high-level category of your data and should be easily understood by all users of K (including business users)
Common Domain categories are functional types (e.g. Customer, Finance, Operations) or business silo/franchise (e.g. Division A, Division B)
Domains should be created at the organisational level. If a more specific team-based type classification is required (e.g. sub-domain), then teams should request their K Data Governance Manager/Admin to create a new Collection
Sub-Domains
Prior to creating a new collection, it is important to first consider whether it can be added as an instance to existing collection. The more collections that are created, the more that needs to be maintained and the higher the risk of mistakes
The benefit of using collections to group data is that K has the capability to create Linking rules and automatically connect a data item to a pre-defined collection via regex rules
